Dr. S. Mahmud Ali was trained at the Pakistan Military Academy and educated at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI), and King’s College London. Shortly before defending his doctoral dissertation in War Studies (University of London), he was engaged by the British Broadcasting Corporation as a broadcaster. He served with the BBC for over two decades as an analyst, editor, and manager, retiring in 2009. In 2010, he was appointed an East Asia International Affairs Programme Associate at the LSE IDEAS. He has authored several books, including a five-volume series on US-China strategic relations.
